Castles were built in the middle ages as a defensive structure. True castles appeared in Europe, by the mid of ninth century. Nobles built the first castle to provide protection and also so that the local military could operate from the base. Initially, the castles were built in the type called “Motte and Bailey”. Woods were used to build the castle towers and gradually it was replaced by stones. Later the castles were improved by curtain walls, where the width of the wall ranged up to 6 to 16 feet. According to the size of castles it may take less than a year and up to 20 years to build a castle.
